Open the Windows!

Pentecost is this Sunday, and we are reminded of the Spirit descending in the Upper Room, with women and men, young and old filled as the winds of the Spirit blew through the open windows and everyone was filled with passion and power and spoke so that people of every place and race could understand the Good News of Jesus Christ was to all people.  Pentecost is not just a Sunday remembering the founding of the church, but also an ongoing season of renewal.  We challenge you to wear red this Sunday to symbolize the fames of fire of the Spirit as well as dedicate time to renewing your faith life and passion for loving and serving God and neighbor.  Let our hearts and voices ring with, “Come, Holy Spirit! Come!”
(verse of the week)
Acts 2:1-4  When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

(prayer of the week)
“Come, Holy Spirit! Come!”  Stir our hearts!  Renew our faith!  Reignite the passion of your Spirit in every heart and life that we may share your love boldly.  Amen.

(quote of the week)
Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Thy presence in my soul. Let them look up and see no longer me but only Jesus. Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as you shine, so to shine as to be a light to others. Amen –Mother Teresa

Congratulations Graduates!

  For many this is the end of a semester of hard work and dedication as well as the end of high school or college, and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.  Congratulations!  We applaud your dedication and hard work!
  There will be many times of transition in our lives.  We must learn to be thankful for our accomplishments, let go of our disappointments, and celebrate the future as we open our lives to God leading us in new directions and new possibilities.  Continue to open your life to God’s Spirit through worship, Bible reading, and prayer.  Wherever your life leads, use your gifts and talents to serve God and others.  Know that whatever you do you can have an impact on the lives of others.  Always live out your faith in whatever work you find yourself and take time to share the love of Christ.

(verse of the week)
Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain if it is in the Lord.  1 Corinthians 15.58

(prayer of the week)
Lord, help us to celebrate the milestones of life and help us to be open to the new chapters of life with energy and enthusiasm.  May all we do, serve others and give honor and glory to you, through Christ Our Lord, amen.

Blessings--Pastor TJ

(quote of the week)
Christ has no body now on earth but yours;
No hands but yours;
No feet but yours;
Yours are the eyes through which to look out Christ’s compassion to the world; Yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good; Yours are the hands with which He is to bless now--St Teresa of Avila

Mother’s Day

5/11/2023

This Sunday is Mother’s Day and we honor and thank our mothers who have had such a positive and profound impact on our lives.  My own mother is a source of wisdom and strength and faith, most importantly, love.  I know I am not alone.  Proverbs 31 is recorded by King Lemuel, but were words from his mother encouraging him on the importance of finding the right woman as wife and mother for a partner in life.  I hope you will take time to appreciate and honor your mother this Sunday.  Wishing my mother, and all of our mothers, a very Happy Mother’s Day!

Prov. 31:25-31         She is clothed with strength and dignity;
                        she can laugh at the days to come.
26         She speaks with wisdom,
                        and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27         She watches over the affairs of her household
                        and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28         Her children arise and call her blessed;
                        her husband also, and he praises her:
29         “Many women do noble things,
                        but you surpass them all.”
30         Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
                        but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31         Honor her for all that her hands have done,
                        and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Lord, thank you for our mothers; they are a gift and a treasure, a source of wisdom and strength and faith, most importantly, love.  Bless our mothers as we give them honor and appreciation.  Amen.

May the Force Be with You-National Day of Prayer

5/4/2023

 Today is the National Day of Prayer.  It is also May the 4th Day; so named for sounding like the now infamous Star Wars mantra “May the force be with you!”  I am a huge Star Wars fan, and love that saying and frankly I think it is fitting this year to land on the National Day of Prayer, which truly is about the Divine Force being with us.  Payer is the most underrated power in the universe.   But the truth the song writer penned so long ago still rings true today: “What a friend we have in Jesus, what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.” Take time today to join people all over the nation and world to seek God in prayer, and remember the power and privilege of prayer each day.  It will make all the difference in all of life. God’s Word has such wonderful promises on prayer: “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place” (2 Chronicles 7.14,15) Yes may the Force be with you!

(verse of the week)
I call on you, O God, for you will answer me;
  give ear to me and hear my prayer.
Show the wonder of your great love,
you who save by your right hand
 those who take refuge in you from their foes.
Keep me as the apple of your eye;
  hide me in the shadow of your wings (Psalm 17.6-8)

Prayer of the Week
Gracious Eternal God, thank you for the gift of prayer, that we come before you and share our heart and lives with you.  Thank you that we can find strength for the day in your strength, that we can find grace in your grace, and we may know your forgiveness and love each day.  Be with us today and be also with the leaders of our world and help us to strive for peace and justice and follow your will and way, through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Open your heart to God’s awesome love—Pastor TJ
