Foundations

When we look around in awe at the beauty and majesty of the universe, we cannot help but be struck by God’s power and planning that put it all together.  God not only created all the universe; God also laid down laws that guide the workings of the universe.  Upon these laws God has laid the foundation of the universe.  God has also wonderfully and intricately created each of us, and God has laid out laws of living that are the foundation of life and a guide for a fruitful and fulfilled life.  In Psalm 119 the psalmist goes through the entire Hebrew alphabet and reflects on each letter of the alphabet as a guide on the foundations of life that God has laid down for a blessed and happy life.  He begins with the very foundation of faith and life in the eternal commands of God.  Only as our lives are guided by God’s ways can we find true and lasting happiness.  In the next few weeks we will take a bit of a hike along the pathways of God rediscovering the beauty of creation and the pathway to a happy life.  Take a moment and reflect on following the path God has put before you and ask God for guidance and power to live according to his will.

(Verse of the week)
Blessed are they whose ways are blameless,
who walk according to the law of the LORD.
Blessed are they who keep his statutes
and seek him with all their heart.
They do nothing wrong;
      they walk in his ways.
You have laid down precepts
that are to be fully obeyed.
Oh, that my ways were steadfast
      in obeying your decrees!
Then I would not be put to shame
when I consider all your commands.
I will praise you with an upright heart
as I learn your righteous laws.   (Psalm 119.1-7 selections)

(Prayer of the week)
Heavenly Father, help me to follow your will and built my life on your eternal foundations.  Forgive me for the times I have wandered away from the path of life, and help me to rediscover your plan and purpose for my life.  Fill me with your grace and love and make me a blessing to others, through your power and to your glory.  Amen.

Earth Day!

4/22/2021

Today we celebrate Earth Day, when we appreciate our world and all its benefits and also reflect on how we care for it.  In Genesis “the book of beginnings” chapter two God placed people in the garden to work it and take care of it.  We are literally commissioned by God to steward the earth like a gardener or farmer would their garden or field of crops.  It is never ours; it is only entrusted to us to appreciate and use wisely.  How are you doing with God’s commission to steward our world?  It is full of bounty and blessing to enjoy, but we should be good stewards of our Creator.

(verse of the week)
The earth is the LORD’S, and everything in it,
  the world, and all who live in it;
for He founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the waters.  (Psalm 24.1,2)

(Prayer of the week)
Almighty and Loving God, thank you for the blessing of the universe and all that you created and the special blessing of our world.  Help me to be a steward of all that you have blessed us with, and may I also steward each day of my life giving back to you by the way I use my gifts and talents.  May your Spirit fill me and make me a new creation empowered by your grace and love.  Fill me with your love, and may others see you in all I do, and give you thanks.   Amen.

Blessings –Pastor TJ

(quote of the week)
“The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out,
Like shining from shook foil. . .
Oh, morning at the brown brink eastward springs--
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast
And with ah! Bright wings—Gerald Manley Hopkins, “God’s Grandeur”

Peace

One of the most interesting natural phenomena is the eye of the hurricane.  In the middle of the most devastating storm with deadly winds and pounding waves is the eye of the hurricane, which has blue skies and a peaceful breeze where birds often find shelter.  God has promised that we too, can find a calm peace in the midst of the most turbulent storms of life if our hearts and lives are centered on Christ.  May God's Spirit fill you with a peace that transcends all understanding and refreshes your heart and life.

(Verse of the week)
Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14.27)

(Prayer of the week)
Almighty God of power and love, thank you for the gift of life and even the challenges of life.  Fill me anew with your Spirit of peace and may I find quiet rest in you even in the midst of the pain and heartache and challenges of life.  May your peace so touch me that others will be touched by your presence and peace in me.  Amen.

May the peace of Christ be with you—Pastor TJ

Springtime

4/15/2021

Spring is such a glorious time! The cold and barrenness of winter gives way to the new life of spring, trees begin to bud, flowers begin to blossom, the air is filled with the songs of birds.  Everywhere there is life springing up. It seems so fitting that springtime follows Easter.  The Easter miracle is not just a symbol or new life, but it is the power to find new life in a risen Lord.  Past failures are forgiven, guilt and shame are washed away, power for living is found in God’s love and grace.  As we continue to open our lives to God’s plan and purpose for our lives and trust in His power, we find new life with a new joy and power to live and love.

(verse of the week)
Jesus said--I have come that they might have life, and have life abundantly! (John 10.10)

(Prayer of the week)
Almighty and Loving God, thank you for the seasons of the year and the seasons of life.  Thank you for your Spirit that gives life in all of creation and in me.  Renew my faith in you and rekindle the joy of life.  Give me a new sense of your purpose and power in my life.  Fill me with your love, and may others see you in all I do, and give you thanks.   Amen.

Open your heart to God's amazing love!--Pastor TJ
