Homecoming

9/26/2024

Homecoming season is upon us complete with all the celebration and festivities and, of course, the football games.  Many of you love football as much as I do.  It is a great sport where people put everything they have on the line to push forward and to cross the goal, score a touchdown, and win the game.  What would happen if we were that excited and determined about living out our Christian lives?  Imagine how our lives would change if we applied the same enthusiasm and the determination to our faith.  Like a player on the field, the Apostle Paul reminds us of this same zeal as he let's go of what is behind and presses forward toward the goal, strengthened and empowered by faith in Christ, and challenges us to do the same:

(verse of the week)
I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.   Sisters and brothers, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it.  But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3.12-14)

(prayer of the week)
Lord, renew my faith and determination to live as you would have me to live, full of grace and love, strengthened by your Spirit to love and serve you and others, amen.

Have a blessed week!—Pastor TJ

Path

It’s a great season for scenic hikes or just leisurely walks.  The glory of creation is all around in the summertime sun, with colorful flowers, flowing fields of grain and singing birds.  Life's journey has its twists and turns, its scenic paths, and it’s difficult climbs--but through it all we can be confident that God has a plan and purpose for our life, and God will see us through.  God has promised to show us the way and teach us His paths.  Most of all God has promised to be with us, strengthen us, and see us through.  Remember whoever you are, and wherever you are on life's journey that God loves you and God will see you through.

(verse of the week)
Show me your ways, O Lord,
 Teach me your paths,
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
For you are God my Savior,
And my hope is in you all day long.  (Psalm 25.4,5)

(prayer of the week)
Lord, lead me in the path of life.  Help me to have faith that you know what is best and trust that you are with me come mountain high or valley low.  Help me to grow each day in love for you and love for others, through your power and to your glory, amen.

Have a blessed week—Pastor TJ

911 Remember and Honor

9/11/2024

Today we remember and honor the lives lost as well as the heroic efforts to save lives on 911 from the attack on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center.  Fire fighters, police, first responders and ordinary citizens ran into the burning Twin Towers risking their lives and in many cases sacrificing their lives to save others. Soon after other stories of heroism and sacrifice emerged at the Pentagon and over the skies in Pennsylvania. How we chose to respond to the violence and hatred and injustice around us, defines who we are and how we live. Let us be inspired to live out the best values and ideals that guide us.  Let us choose to live our best and give our best.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13)

(prayer of the week)
Lord, we remember and honor the service and sacrifice of those who put duty before self, living out a sacrificial love; we remember and honor lives lost, hearts broken, tears shed, and dreams shattered.  Grant us grace to honor all through living our best and giving our best, through your grace and to your glory, amen.

Have a blessed week—Pastor TJ

Pump Up the Positive with Rally Day

9/5/2024

Don’t you love a great Pep Rally!  When you think of a pep rally, great images may come to mind of a high school or college pep rally for football or high school game and all the enthusiasm, fun and excitement.  I always love the cheer and the acrobatics of the cheer leaders as they get the crowd and pumped up with a positive attitude to face the challenge ahead.  Rally Day for church is similar with the focus on starting out the church and Sunday School year with enthusiasm, faith and a positive attitude.  The psalmist gives us a great positive cheer to start our season or every year—whatever we face we can have a positive attitude knowing God is our strength and our shield.  So, go ahead and take a little leap for joy!

The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him (Psalm 28:7)

(prayer of the week)
Lord, thank you that you have a plan and a purpose for my life.  Thank you that you give me strength and courage to face every challenge.  Help me to have a positive attitude today and every day, through your power and to your glory, amen.

Have a blessed week!—Pastor TJ
